Meet The World Champions: Viqueens Cheerleaders Spirit
All the way from Norway, Viqueens Cheerleaders Spirit brought all the energy at The Cheerleading Worlds 2024 to win their first-ever gold medal.
In 2011, Viqueens Cheerleaders Spirt first began their journey competing at The Cheerleading Worlds. Now 14 years later, the team saw all of the long hours of hard work pay off as they were named 2024 World Champions in the L7 International Open division.
"Wow, that was amazing," said Spirt coach Nathalie Brøndrup. "We've been practicing and trying for that tile for so long and finally everything just clicked. It was a big, magical moment, and it's hard to take it all in because it's been a dream for so long and the fact that we finally did it is just huge."

Viqueens Cheerleaders has made their name known at The Cheerleading Worlds for many years. Spirit came close in 2022 with a second place finish in the L7 International Open division. The win this season was a magical moment for the team, but also for every single athlete & coach who have been a part of the legacy in years past.
"I've been picturing that moment for so long first as an athlete on Spirit and now as a coach. To be able to see the athletes experience that after a run like they did both in semi-finals and finals, and having that payoff... it was just incredible and I'm so happy that those really hard-working athletes got to experience that," said Brøndrup.
Brøndrup credited the team's success to the special culture that has been built up over the years. She explained how it doesn't all happen overnight but grows over time with lots of hard work.
"It's always been a really hard-working culture and we've had a lot of great coaches for the team in the past, and a lot of dedicated great athletes who have really built up this hard-working and fighting energy that has always been a part and signature of Spirit," said Brøndrup. "It's kind of built on, and the athletes coming into the team later on have adopted it and kept building on it. This year we got to keep building on it as coaches too. It was very special because this was our first year as coaches for Spirt too, so it was a whole new coaching team."
This year's World Champion team was also special in that most of the team also competes with Team Norway at the ICU World Cheerleading Championships.
"Out of six groups on the national team, five of them were from Spirit. Almost everyone that competed on the floor at Worlds with Spirit also competed at ICU Worlds with Team Norway too," explained Brøndrup.
Whether it's taking the stage at the ICU World Cheerleading Championships, or putting on a show at The Cheerleading Worlds, Brøndrup says it's an indescribable feeling to be able to represent Norway every step of the way.
"That is very special and we're so proud that we have so many of our athletes on the national team too. Of course we want to be able to perform both with the national team and Spirit. It's really incredible to know that we have the kind of talent on our team," said Brøndrup.
