After winning at the World Games Series in Hong Kong in late 2024, USA Cheer's Allison Hoeft and Sydney Martin qualified to compete in the 2025 World Games. The World Games were founded to help create more opportunities for new sports to join the Olympic Games program.

Because of their success in 2024, the duo was nominated to earn the Athletes of the Year award. The 2025 edition of The World Games will be the first time that cheer will be involved in The World Games.

What Are The World Games?

The World Games are an international multi-sport event that includes sports that are not in the Olympic Games. They are usually held during the year following the Summer Olympic Games and are governed by the International World Games Association, under the International Olympic Committee.

The games were designed in part to create an opportunity for new sports to join the olympic program.

In 2021, the International Olympic Committee officially recognized the International Cheer Union, making the sport eligible to be added to upcoming Olympic Games.

At the time, it was thought that cheer would be included in the 2028 edition in Los Angeles, but that was stymied when it did not make the shortlist of sports to be added.
