Teams are very excited about the new addition to this year's Dance Worlds. USASF has now recognized Contemporary/Lyrical as a separate dance style from Jazz at The Dance Worlds Championship. What's great about this is not only will teams and choreographers showcase how different these styles are, but there's two more opportunities to take home the coveted World Championship title.

In Jazz, you will see more energetic and hard hitting motions and obvious connections to the rhythm and main beats of the music. In the Contemporary/Lyrical category, the audience and judges will be seeing a deeper emotional connection with a combination of balletic technical skills and more controlled, modern movement. The separation of these styles for 2017 is a milestone in keeping the integrity of the movement.

What to expect in the new Dance Worlds Divisions

With already 28 Senior bids and four Open bids earned in the new Contemporary/Lyrical category at Worlds, it's bound to be an intense and emotional competition. Some top contenders we're most likely to see perform in Finals will be Dancers Edge Studio, The Vision Dance Center, Dancin' Bluebonnets, Brookfield Center for the Arts and Dance Dynamics.

Another senior team to be on the lookout for is Music City All Stars. They have always held a consistent standing after Finals at Worlds and is a stand out on stage with their strong emotion and those flawlessly beautiful rhinestone costumes. Some surprising contenders in the Senior division may be NY Majestic Dance Team and a studio that is starting to make a name for themselves at this level, Velocity Dance.
