The Start Of A New Chapter: Cassidy Myatt Joins Kentucky Cheer
Former Woodlands Elite General begins a new chapter in her cheerleading career as she takes on the University of Kentucky.
As her all star career came to a close and University of Kentucky tryouts were wrapping up, the future of Cassidy Myatt's collegiate athletic career weighed in someone else's hands. All Cassidy could do was be hopeful that her hard work and talent were enough to catapult her to the next level.
Looking back, Cassidy had experiences many cheerleaders only dream of. She began competing at Cheer United; coached by a former UK cheerleader at six years old, she was certainly set on the road to Kentucky at a young age.
In 2011, Cassidy made the move to Woodlands Elite as an athlete on the Small Senior L5 squad, Generals. At only 12, she had some big shoes to fill in becoming a General; a team known for pushing the envelope especially in the tumbling category. Cassidy rightfully earned her stars competing with Generals 2011-2017.
As if dedicating her time at Woodlands Elite wasn't enough, Cassidy also cheered for three years on the sidelines for Cypress Ranch High School.
I love the whole game day experience that you don't get with all star cheer. I love getting to cheer on other sports using poms and signs.
With college in the near future, Cassidy took part in numerous college clinics shaping her technique as much as she could. Visiting Kentucky was different though -- "I felt at home," Cassidy said. "The athletes, coaches and environment was so laid back and fun. I felt welcomed and wanted. I knew that this was the program for me. The feelings I got when I toured the campus… I imagined myself continuing my life here. I didn't feel that way at any other school."
Genuine enthusiasm for all things sideline paired with years of athletic all star training, Cassidy seemed perfectly molded for the blue & white uniform. As Kentucky's tryouts began, nerves turned to trust.
Since there are a limited number of males trying out in relation to females, Cassidy made sure to stunt with as many people as possible. She decided to choose a partner based on trust over skill. "The two boys I picked said to me, 'Don't worry, I've got you. It's going to be fine.' By the end of the tryout, all the nerves settled. "The final tryout was such an amazing experience. I really had a lot of fun with it."
Finally, the wait was over. Cassidy's name was called - she made the team! After realizing she made Kentucky Blue, it was nothing but excitement.
As Cassidy moves to Lexington this fall, you'll find her studying Kinesiology in the classroom and showing out on the sidelines at Commonwealth Stadium.
I am so excited to take on college and Kentucky cheer with my new family. I feel like I connected with the team and will gain some lifelong friendships from this experience. I am really looking forward to creating so many special memories.
As for her next feat: "My next goal to accomplish is definitely to help lead UK to championship #23!"
