Pom: A Universal Favorite At The Dance Worlds
Pom: A Universal Favorite At The Dance Worlds
The Pom Divisions are a universal favorite here at The Dance Worlds. Here is everything you need to know about the category.
The beauty of all star Pom dance is the category’s perfect balance of tradition and innovation. There are classic arm placements every team that hits the stage will execute. How they transition from one movement to the next is what will set the teams apart.
No doubt the audience will feel the energy and excitement of every Pom performance. Teams from all over the world are expected to show their hard work in the Pom divisions, as it’s the most universal dance team categories.
Among the four different Pom divisions this year, Large Senior Pom and Open Coed Pom are bound to stand out. Large Senior Pom will be out of this world with visuals and themes that will have you talking about the routines into 2019! Being able to have so many athletes on the stage allows for the dancers to place their poms in ways that create intriguing visual effects.
Starz Dance Academy climbed the ranks to take home the gold last year in Large Senior Pom after placing in the top five back in 2016. They are ready to be back at The Dance Worlds to defend their title.
In 2017, they took the stage with two different neon-colored poms which gave a great contrast to their mostly black costumes. Starz also executed full team triple touches and one of the most seamless pom switches of 2017. Check out their winning routine here!

Another known team we will for sure see in Finals is Energizers Dance Team. Their large team brought home fifth place last season but won the gold in 2016. This team is known for their speed and memorable themes.
The Energizers focus on and perfect every tiny detail to make sure the theme of their pom routine is clear and full of surprises.
Do not expect the exact same routine you may have seen earlier in the season. These dancers take feedback seriously and want to put on the best performance not only for themselves but for the audience. Here’s a throwback to 2016 when their “shapes” routine took home the title.

South Coast Freestyle has been added to the list of must-watch pom teams over the last couple of years. Their focus on technique and their ability to think outside the box could help them achieve another top spot in 2018.

Open Coed Pom is going to be one of the most exciting pom divisions this season. This division is not as easy, and the athleticism of these dancers is truly amazing. A longtime top team that represented the USA closed its doors this past year and a new team is eager to show off their moves.
The team we will not see take the Dance Worlds stage this year is PACE Elite All Stars. For multiple years, this team has taken home the gold or silver in either Open Coed Pom or Open Pom. Many teams from around the globe have looked up to them for their choreography and execution year after year. PACE set the bar high and will be missed in Orlando.
Mexico brings the teams with the most male representation and their breathtaking technique is crowd favorite every year. Rocheer has stayed top five for the past four years and brought home gold in 2016. Dance Factory from Mexico has also showcased some great talent on the Dance Worlds stage and is looking to move up to the top spot this season.
The Energizers Dance team brought one awesome male dancer to their performance last year and have accepted their bid in this division, so we should be ready for another pleasing routine.
Be on the lookout for the Open teams from Mexico! Check out Dance Factory’s bronze routine from 2017.
A newcomer in the Open Coed Pom division is Velocity Dance. This group is made up of 12 dancers and coached by Suzanne Mansfield, and they are ready to bring it. They have only been practicing for a few months and are eager to show the world what they can do.
Ali Fisher is a first-time Dance Worlds competitor from Velocity. FloCheer caught up with her and she tells us that the team “can’t wait to take control of that stage.” Her favorite part of the routine is the middle turn sequence. This is the moment she cheers on the other dancers. She says it’s the time “we are ‘restarting’ the routine so we have a new boost of energy and keep going strong.”
“We feel so fortunate to have the opportunity to compete against other teams in the nation and from around the world."
Be ready for colorful pom combinations, interesting themes, and pumped-up dancers fighting their way to the top! Don’t forget to tune in live to watch The Dance Worlds 2018!
