Open Contemporary/Lyrical's Worlds Debut Gains Momentum In Semi-Finals
If you came to The Dance Worlds 2019 to find stunningly beautiful dancing, then look no further than the Open Contemporary/Lyrical division.
If you came to The Dance Worlds 2019 to find stunningly beautiful dancing, then look no further than the Open Contemporary/Lyrical division. Twenty-five teams from across the globe took the floor today in search of a spot in Finals, and there was no shortage of drama and emotion in this division—the teams delivered performances that would melt even the coldest of hearts.
Leading the way after Day 1 is the always-incredible The Vision Dance Center – Open Allstars. The reigning World Champions let everyone know they are not planning on going anywhere. They delivered a gorgeous routine that set new bars for emotional performativity. The raw passion, and at times even angst, gave such a truthful telling of the music and story they were trying to tell. The dancers’ faces were always on, and the beauty of the moment transcended through their fingertips. It was a lovely performance that shook the entire room. They will certainly be the team to beat in Finals if they can match what they did today.
Holding down the second spot with a tremendous performance is Dance Dynamics – Open Lyrical. There were a lot of beautiful moments in this routine, but our favorites were the highlighted individual sections, where flexibility and breathtaking technique were on full display.
Following closely behind in third place is Dance Mania – Open Contemporary. They told a beautiful story with some outrageously good partner work that flowed beautifully back into full team moments that brought tears to our eyes.
Other top finishers from Day 1 included Sharon Ann Academy of Cheer and Dance – SA Supreme representing for England, Mt Eden Ballet Academy from New Zealand, Mathis Dance Studio – Diamonds from Australia, Attitude Dance & Cheer – Attitude #AEP from Australia, and Ultimate Dance Centre – Ultimate Rock Stars from Australia. We also want to acknowledge Brookfield Center for the Arts – BCA Senior All Stars who gave a mind-blowing performance that they should be very proud of. They did not advance due to the three-per-country rule, but had a top-five and world-class performance that we absolutely loved.
The Vision Dance Center will have the upper hand going into tomorrow’s Finals, but any number of these teams can bring a performance worthy of the podium. We can’t wait to watch the finalists take the floor and bring the emotional content like no other. Bring some tissues, because this one’s gonna make you cry!
