Senior Small & Senior Large Contemporary/Lyrical
Division History
Get ready for all of the feels, because it’s time for the Senior Contemporary/Lyrical divisions at The Dance Worlds 2022.
If you have ever been moved to feel extreme emotional highs or lows simply by watching a dance routine, chances are you were watching a routine in this category. The Contemporary/Lyrical divisions are known for having the most emotion-driven concepts, choreography, and performances.
The USASF describes a Contemporary/Lyrical routine as using “organic, expressive, pedestrian and/or traditional modern and/or ballet vocabulary as it complements the lyrics, mood and/or rhythmic value of the music. So, what this style ultimately comes down to is choreography intertwined with musicality.
In 2019, the popular division was split by size to create Senior Small and Senior Large Contemporary/Lyrical divisions. So, there will be two gold medals on the line for Senior teams, and two opportunities for programs with Senior teams to flex their emotive muscles.
Whenever we watch these divisions, the best of the best always tug at our heartstrings. So, make sure you grab your tissues, sit back, and get ready for a beautiful show.

Senior Small Contemporary/Lyrical
GOLD: Dance Mania
Final Score: 94.46
Dance Mania kept the crowd entertained and secured the globe taking home another first-place finish at The Dance Worlds 2021. This team draws you in with beautiful movements and choreography. The Florida program is definitely one to keep your eye on!
SILVER: The Vision Dance Center
Final Score: 94.08
The Vision Dance Center finished strong in second place at The Dance Worlds 2021. Their ability to bring beauty and technique to the floor earned them a spot on the podium with a final score of 94.08.
BRONZE: Dancer's Edge Studio
Final Score: 93.76
Dancer's Edge Studio was the defending Senior Small Contemporary/Lyrical champions heading into the competition and their strong performance in Orlando earned them another globe and the bronze medals in 2021. Dancer's Edge had the ability to draw the crowd in with their beauty and technique after being strong competitors all season.

Senior Large Contemporary/Lyrical
GOLD: Dancin Bluebonnets
Final Score: 95.18
With an impressive final score of 95.18, the Dancin Bluebonnets became the 2021 Senior Large Contemporary/Lyrical World Champions. The Texas program is always a top contender in the Contemporary/Lyrical divisions and the caliber in which they execute on stage made them the clear champion in 2021.
SILVER: Dance Dynamics
Final Score: 94.2
For the second year in a row, Dance Dynamics proved their strengths in the Senior Large Contemporary/Lyrical division claiming a spot on the podium and the silver medals! The team scored a 94.2 after they performed an extraordinary routine that executed impressive choreography and leaps from the whole team.
BRONZE: Music City All Stars
Final Score: 91.9
The Music City All Stars took home bronze with a heartfelt routine in 2021. The poise and technique they showed scored them a 91.9 earned the Tennessee team a spot on the podium.

WSF Louisville Grand Nationals
Senior Small: Scenic City Dance Studio
Scenic City Dance Studio was the only Senior Contemporary/Lyrical team of the weekend to score above a 90 at the 2021 WSF Louisville Grand Nationals. The Tennessee team scored a 90.1313 to take the championship title. The Vision Dance Center finished the weekend in second followed by Star Performance Centre in third.
Senior Large: The Vision Dance Center
The Vision Dance Center started their season in their home state of Kentucky and earned a bid win in the Senior Large Contemporary/Lyrical division with a stunning display of emotion and technique. Starz Dance Academy rounded out the division taking second place with a final score of 84.6.
NDA All-Star National Championship
Senior Small: Music City All Stars
At the 2022 NDA All-Star National Championship, fans got a good look at what they will be seeing at The Dance Worlds in just a few weeks. Music City All Stars topped the Senior Small Contemporary/Lyrical division with a final score of 91.33. Coming behind them in second was Dancin With Roxie scoring a 90.27 followed by The Knockout All Stars who scored a 89.44.
Senior Large: Music City All Stars
Music City All Stars did a full sweep in the Senior Contemporary/Lyrical division at the 2022 NDA All-Star National Championship taking home the top spot in Small and Large! The team topped the division with a 93.09 is definitely one to watch this month at The Dance Worlds 2022.
Dance Dynamics took home second with a 92.7 followed by Brookfield Center for the Arts in third with a final score of 92.59.
JAMfest Dance Super Nationals
Senior Small: Dance Mania
Many talented teams took on the Senior Small Contemporary/Lyrical division at the 2022 JAMfest Dance Super Nationals and the top three teams are ones to keep your eye on at this April at The Dance Worlds.
Dance Mania took home the top spot with a score of 94.08. The Vision Dance Center claimed second with a 93.63 followed by 5678! Dance Studio in third with a final score of 89.66.
Senior Large: Brookfield Center for the Arts
The talent was high at the 2022 JAMfest Dance Super Nationals and we may even see some of these powerhouse programs take the podium at The Dance Worlds 2022! Dance Mania wowed the crowd with their poise and precession earning them the top spot and scoring a 94.08. The Vision Dance Center secured second place with a 93.63 followed by 5678! Studio in third with a 89.66.
The Dance Worlds are just weeks away and we can't wait to see what these teams bring to the stage!
Prelims for the Senior Small and Large Contemporary/Lyrical will take place on April 23rd with their Finals wrapping up on Sunday, April 24th.
