The small gym, Southern Athletics out of Pearl, Mississippi, has beaten the odds in the past and they’re looking to improve even more this season. It’s not every day you see a team who has only been in existence for two years become a highly competitive team at The Cheerleading Worlds championship!
Last season, Pride 5 competed in the Senior Medium Coed Level 5 division. This season, the team is competing in the Senior Restricted Coed Level 5 division and is coached by Will Emmons, Storm Chaffin, and Justin Holmes.
Pride 5 has seven returning members and six new members. We caught up with gym owner and coach Will Emmons for a summer practice check in!
When is choreography for this team?
Choreography for PRIDE5 starts mid-September. We are super pumped to put together an unforgettable routine!
How do you think Pride 5 will do this season based off of the preseason and summer practices?
Our summer practices and skill camps have been GREAT! We have spent the summer polishing our skills, as well as gaining new ones. The team has spent a lot of time adding the difficulty but focusing even harder on our execution.
"As coaches, we love the love they have for each other. In or out of practice, they are always hanging out, pushing each other through tough workouts, and ultimately, just being a family."
What are the team's strengths?
Awesome leadership and phenomenal stunters!
What is one thing you would like Pride5 to improve on this season compared to last year?
We have really been working on our execution of skills. We would love to see PRIDE5 come out this season with a more confident routine.
How would you describe the overall personality of this years team?
The best way to describe this group is driven. They have a strong work ethic & push each other to be their best. They have such a strong bond, and it shows in practices.
