25 seconds can make or break your routine. The opening of your team’s routine is no different than making a great first impression on a date or a job interview. You’ve got to jam pack the opening with visual excitement, energy, showmanship as well as making sure every second is choreographed in a purposeful manner. With only two and a half minutes it’s important to strategically exhibit the necessary skills to maximize your scoresheet without wasting any eight counts on fluff. The following teams, whether they were Level 1 or Level 5, had attention getting openings that also racked up points. Take notes and make sure your team’s opening is one that will be remembered. Watch the full routines in our video archives.

Tis the season to give back…but for most cheerleaders, everyday is a good time to give back. Cheerleaders know that when groups of enthusiastic people come together, for a cause, we have the power to make a difference. So don’t wait for a holiday - EVERY day is the perfect day to give back! Here are just a few examples of the amazing generosity happening in our cheer community throughout every season:

What is that judge THINKING? Coaches, athletes and parents commonly ask this question after every competition, and we are sure to hear it at this weekend's Spirit Celebration Christmas Classic. Judges go through an intensive testing and credentialing system to ensure that their judging is consistent across the board from event to event. Nevertheless each judge has a style they prefer, their own pet peeves and a perspective uniquely their own. Donna Snyder, a 27 year veteran in the world of judging let us pick her brain and find out what she and many other judges are thinking about YOUR routine.

Spirit Nationals is a family first affair for many of our spotlighted athletes competing at this Worlds Bid event in New Jersey. Team members spend so much time together that quite often they begin to treat each other like family - which means they get “REAL” with one another. But in the case of many of our spotlighted athletes this weekend they really do have a family tree that intertwines. In addition, personal struggles can form a bond amongst team members that will make them “family” even if they don’t share the same bloodline.
